The Bi Consultation Service helps people examine their sexuality/lifestyle/relationship concerns, particularly with regard to their awareness of their attractions to both males and females (as well as transgendered individuals). We are a one-to-one and couples peer support service that helps people brainstorm where they are "at" in regards to attraction, lifestyle satisfaction, relationships and so forth; we then help them determine where they want to "be" and figure out ways to get "there". These includes coming-out issues, getting comfortable with one's self, interacting with family and friends, and so forth. We are not a psychological counseling service, though some of our providers are licensed MFCCs, MSWs or Ph.D.s.
The service was founded in 1988 as a complement to the Bi's At the Center discussion/social group at the gay/lesbian center in Long Beach, California. Eventually it became a separate service and is no longer directly affiliated with the Long Beach Center or the bi rap that meets there (andwhich is now sponsored by BiNet L.A.), although it does still serve as a message line for the rap group.
We ask for a $35 consultation fee per person, based on a sliding scale.
